National Bike Month is in May, but Florida and Boca celebrate in March.
“Let’s get the party started now while the weather is better,” is the Florida Bicycle Association’s mantra.
Boca declared March bike month with a proclamation Monday. The city also announced the sixth annual Mayor & Council Member Bicycle Rides. There’s 2- and 4-mile routes.
The meetup is 9 a.m. Saturday March 30 in front of Mizner Park Amphitheater on the north end of Mizner Park.
The 2-mile, police-escorted tour will go through the downtown, ending back at the amphitheater. The 4-mile ride continues to the oceanfront on A1A and surrounding neighborhoods.
“Bicyclists of all ages and experience are invited to participate,” the city announcement said. ”Be sure to bring your own bicycle and helmet. Participants must wear a helmet.”
Mayor Scott Singer presented the city’s Citizens’ Pedestrian & Bikeway Advisory Board at a workshop Monday.
“Bicycling is good for your health and the environment and a way to explore your community,” said chairman Jim Sumislaski.
Boca has 84 miles of bicycle lanes and shared-use paths, Singer added.
By the way, May is National Bike Month. It was established in 1956.
