Big Lots! opens in West Boca Friday with a donation link to a nonprofit mental health center with counseling in schools.
The national discounter’s grand opening is 8:30 a.m. July 26 at 21697 State Road 7, in the shopping center on the west side just north of Palmetto Park Road. The first 50 shoppers July 27 and 28 will receive a reusable shopping bag filled with treats.
Big Lots! will donate $5 to Faulk Center for Counseling each time a BIG Rewards loyalty member redeems a reward at the Boca store through Sept. 7.
“We were selected by Big Lots! as their charity partner for the grand opening of this newest location,” said Faulk CEO Vicki Katz. The center on Boca Rio Road received what Katz called “a generous grant this year from the Big Lots! Foundation.”
Faulk is the only no or low-cost center for mental health counseling in Boca since 1973. The center trains doctoral students and has 10 support groups.
They’re also one of the behavorial health providers for Palm Beach County schools. “Last year we provided preventative counseling program at 20 schools including at Boca Raton, Spanish River and Olympic Heights high schools and a range of elementary and middle schools in Boca,” Katz said.
The center also placed three professionals in schools after the state passed the Marjorie Stoneman Douglas Act after the school shooting in Parkland.
The Big Lots! donations “provides important support and community exposure for our organization and our mission to provide affordable mental health services to children, families and individuals of all ages,” Katz said.
The center also takes part in Boca Chamber Festival Days as one of 22 nonprofits that benefit from the events.
