The 21st annual OPAL award recipients were announced at a reception for past and present honorees at Paradise Bank.
The couples are Aubrey and Sally Strul, Art and Glorianne Polacheck as longtime Rotarians and Arlene and Jim Sclafani with the Lifetime Legacy Award.
B’nai Torah’s Rabbi David Steinhardt and Place of Hope’s founding CEO Charles Bender III will also be honored. The Rotary Club of Boca Raton gala is Jan. 19 at Boca West Country Club.
“Everyone in this room is exemplary,” co-chairs Neil Saffer said at the Oct. 18 kickoff.
The 750 foster care kids Bender’s Place of Hope cares for “would fall through the cracks” without them, he said. The Boca Raton campus on Boca Rio Road is completing apartments for kids who age out of the foster care system.
Steinhardt is celebrating his 25th anniversary here, announced Jan Savarick. The rabbi took in the homeless for Family Promise and started an interfaith coalition, she added.
The Struls are part of FAU president John Kelly and his wife Carolyn’s scholarships for students, she added. Savarick will be master of ceremonies at the gala.
Art Polacheck is a volunteer cook at Boca Helping Hands and his wife is involved with teaching and dance, said gala co-chair Spencer Siegel.
The Sclafanis’ Multi Image Group company has provided the video and lighting production for the past OPALs, Siegel added.
