The public’s invited to the Camino Real bridge reopening with an official ribbon cutting at 10 a.m. Tuesday Aug. 6.
But don’t expect to cross the span right away. The opening may take 15 or 20 minutes, according to County Commissioner Robert Weinroth’s office.
Palm Beach County commissioners and Engineering and Public Works Department will cut the ribbon on the Intracoastal bridge.
Once the bridge is open, pedestrians and bicycle riders will find more room alongside vehicle lanes. The bridge tender’s house has moved to the other side.
The reopening was a long time coming. The bridge closed on April 12, 2018 for a $9 million rehabilitation by the county. Construction originally was expected to take one year. But engineers found heavy deterioration that required more repairs. Final inspections had to be conducted.
