Chefs to Compete for Best Gumbo in Boca

Local chefs will compete for bragging rights for the best gumbo at the first Boca GumboFest.

This fundraiser by the Friends of Gumbo Limbo Nature Center is noon to 6 p.m. Saturday, October 20th outdoors on the Intracoastal side of Red Reef Park, 1400 N. Ocean.

The event will also have food trucks, beer, cocktails, and live music.

Presale tickets through Oct. 13 are $20, $25 afterward; VIP $50, $75 afterward; under 12 $5 at https://www.gumbolimbo.org/bocagumbofest

Tickets include parking across the street at Red Reef Park east. Each admission level includes at least one gumbo buck to exchange for food, beverage, or raffle tickets.

Restaurants will include Funky Buddha Brewery, E&M Catering, Boca Raton Resort & Club, Publix Aprons, Henry’s of Delray and Tucker Duke’s.

Funky Buddha Brewery’s draft van will serve beer; St. Augustine Distillery’s gin and hibiscus spritz and Naked Turtle will serve rum.

Gumbo Limbo Nature Center is run by the city on 20 acres along the Intracoastal Waterway. It has a coastal hammock and boardwalk; outdoor aquariums; regular nature and marine life programs and classes; sea turtle walks and hatchling releases; a sea turtle hospital and rehab and a butterfly garden. The center had more than 200,000 visitors last year.
