The temporary holding school that will house two Boca elementary school rebuilds is a step closer. The city approved a land lease for a space next to Don Estridge High Tech Middle School. The lease is $1 a year for five years, according to the city.
The 11.72 acres will be for a temporary facility only, assistant city manager Mike Woika told city council Tuesday. The site will house Verde Elementary and Addison Mizner Elementary schools’ students while their schools are being rebuilt. Verde will go first.
The school will have portable classrooms, a building for administrative staff and a parking lot.
The school district will pay for temporary roads and will fence in the road that comes from Military Trail, Woika said. There will also be a new driveway past Mizner Bark dog park on Banyan Trail.
City Councilwoman Andrea O’Rourke was concerned about traffic stacking up on Military Trail.
Most parents drop off students at Verde, so the district has taken that into account and will have buses and a drop-off loop on Banyan, Woika said.
The temporary site was the subject of 125 emails he received, said Mayor Scott Singer. “The school district needs to go out to bid, we want them to move this forward,” he added.
