Coronavirus crime watch in Boca and suburbs

Crime is down in the city and the same in the Boca Raton suburbs as of Tuesday March 24. Here’s Q&As with the city’s Police Services and Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office spokespeople.

Police Services

Q:  Is crime up or down?

A: So far this month, overall, crimes are down compared with the same month to date last year.

Q: What do you attribute that to? Less activity?

A: We don’t guess why crime is up or down.

Q: Is Police Services deploying officers to any different sites given the new mandates?

A: No

Q: What kinds of calls are you getting from the public?

A: We are getting the same calls we normally do. Nothing out of the ordinary.

Q: Who tipped police off on the 2100 Ocean Boulevard block incident last night where suspects were arrested in an attempted house burglary?

A: A resident heard someone outside their home.

Q:  What do you want the public to do differently under these circumstances to help police keep law and order?

A: Follow city directives put out by city posted on city website.

Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office

Q: Is crime up or down?

A: We are not seeing any difference due to the current conditions.

Q: What do you attribute that to? Less activity?

A: Less congestion in the community since people are staying home.

Q: Is PBSO in the district that covers suburban Boca deploying officers to any different sites given the new mandates?

A: PBSO remains fully operational ONLY making adjustments when needed.

Q: What kinds of calls are you getting from the public?

A: Same

Q: What do you want the public to do differently under these circumstances to help officers keep law and order?

A: Follow the CDC guidelines and local, state and government guidelines. Be safe and healthy.
