The public’s invited to view landscaping plans for the new public golf course at 5800 NW Second Ave. in Boca Teeca.
Landscape architect Carol Perez unveiled drawings for Boca National Golf Club. They’ll be posted on the Greater Boca Raton Beach & Park District. Renderings will also be on view in the district office in Sugar Sand Park Community Center during business hours.
The district bought the former Ocean Breeze course and Price Fazio is designing a new course that will be open to the public.
How many trees can be saved, and buffering neighbors from train noise came up at the presentation Monday. Some 60 trees could be relocated and she plans to meet with city arborists, said Perez, a principal at AGTLand. Plans have to include heavier buffers along railroad tracks, commissioners said.
Frequent and longer freight trains are so noisy “you can’t hear anything. I counted 140 cars the last time,” said Harold Chaffee, president of Keep Golf in Boca.
Commissioners are waiting for public feedback to approve the landscaping.
And there’s no construction money yet for the course. The district is waiting for a joint meeting with the city to ask for a construction loan and general golf course plan approval. A tentative date is May 13.
“Our best bet is to have that city meeting,” said Commissioner Craig Ehrnst. “We saved 200 acres from further development. We will have that conversation.”
