If you like watching live fire demos, police robots, motorcycles and K-9s, Boca Raton First Responder Expo is happening Saturday. Boca Raton Fire Rescue and Police Services take over the northwest lot at Town Center at Boca Raton 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. That’s on the corner of St. Andrews Boulevard and Glades Road.
“We’ll also have bounce houses, face painting, free hot dog, chips and drinks, police and fire giveaways,” said Assistant Fire Chief Michael LaSalle, who organizes this annual event. More than 5,000 people checked this out last year, LaSalle added. The fire department plans two live apartment fires and vehicle extrication demonstrations. Police will demonstrate their bomb squad robots, K-9 dogs and motorcycles. See the demo schedule below.
Photo ops for children with police and firefighters, clowns, and face painting are among activities planned. A fire pumper, fire ambulance HazMat team in uniform, and an Ocean Rescue boat will be on display. The Trauma Team at Delray Medical Center will give away and size 300 bicycle helmets. Free screenings for blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol will be conducted by Boca Raton Regional Hospital.
New this year is the introduction of PulsePoint, a citizens’ response app. “You can download this on your phone. It will send you an address and closest AED,” LaSalle said about defibrillators. “We’re rolling it out at this event. You have to be CPR and AED certified.”
