Fred Couples has confirmed he’s playing the Oasis Championship at the Old Course at Broken Sound here. The former World No. 1 Masters Champion and PGA TOUR Champions All-Star will join a field including Gary Nicklaus. Jack Nicklaus hinted via Twitter he would come in to support his son, according to the tournament.
The Oasis starts Monday, Feb. 4 with pro-ams. Couples will join televised professional play the following weekend.
His last trip to Boca was in 2017, where he finished T6. “I’ve always loved coming to Boca Raton,” Couples, who used to live in Palm Beach County, said in a statement. “This is one of the best events we have on tour and I’m glad to be back.”
Eight-time PGA TOUR Champions Player of the Year Bernhard Langer of Boca Raton will play. Also in the field of 78 golfers are two-time major champion John Daly, defending champion Mark Calcavecchia, and Tom Lehman.
“We are thrilled with our field, especially with Freddie coming in late,” tournament director Eddie Carbone said in a statement.
The PGA TOUR Champions’ first full-field event of the year will compete for a $1.7 million purse, with all three rounds being televised live on the Golf Channel.
Tickets are available at Oasis Championship site for $25 in advance and $30 at the gate. Kids 18 and younger and fans 70 and older with proper ID get in free.
