Pam Perrin showed up at a big Boca event in a strapless evening jumpsuit. She already had some in her wardrobe. “I love jumpsuits. I got a lot of compliments,” said Perrin, development director for the George Snow Scholarship Fund.
Perrin is 5-foot 8. “My height is in my legs, so when I can find a jumpsuit long enough to wear with heels, I’m thrilled, she said.
But you don’t have to be tall to wear one and look good, said Susan Marasco, Bloomingdale’s fashion director for Women’s RTW [ready to wear]. “Someone petite can wear a jumpsuit, but the key is to stick to a silhouette with a tailored fit,” she said.
“Black Halo makes a great style featuring a cropped length and lace bell sleeve bodice. The crop makes the wearer look taller and the lace is perfect for a black tie occasion.”
Here’s her advice for choosing a jumpsuit this season.
Why are evening jumpsuits being shown for fall and winter?
When the season changes, we love mixing up pieces in our wardrobe. When the weather starts to turn a bit cooler, jumpsuits are a great alternative to a cocktail or Little Black Dress.
Are they considered a substitute for a gown for black tie or just cocktail?
The great thing about jumpsuits is they can be worn for any occasion. Depending on the material and silhouette they can work for a casual night out or a black tie event. When wearing a black tie jumpsuit, elevate your accessories with a more formal shoe, jewelry, and bag choice.
What’s different about these new evening-wear jumpsuits, style, and material wise?
Evening-wear jumpsuits have something extra in the designs that take it above and beyond. Style details such as ruffled wide legs or lace, embroideries and beading details on the bodice feel fresh and new. Bloomingdale’s has an all-over sequin jumpsuit by AQUA that is a great update to the sequin gown and perfect for a special occasion.
