Nobody thinks about kids who have to sleep on the floor every night. Luckily, Suzanne Broad did.
But Sweet Dream Makers’ requests for beds and furniture has jumped 51% since January. So instead of just canceling their fall fundraiser, they’re going online with it.
Pajama Game Night – Home Edition is 7 p.m. Thursday, April 23.
“Friends and families are encouraged to have some fun playing games either at home or online in their PJs, share photos on social media using the hashtags #playforbeds and #pjgamenight, and make a donation to Sweet Dream Makers. Donations are voluntary, and each gift of $25 or more will receive an entry into a raffle for either a $1,000 Nordstrom gift card or $500 Amex gift card,” the charity said.

“This is the first time we’re trying this and we have a critical need,” Broad said. “We’ve all be playing games with our kids and family and friends and wearing our pajamas. It’s perfect for our message.”
The people in need are referred by caseworkers who know these families, she said. They’re the same people stocking shelves, driving deliveries and otherwise on the front lines in the coronavirus shutdown.
One single mom stocks shelves in Walmart 4 a.m. to 2 p.m. “The case manager said they were sleeping on a palate on the floor and their daughter was on a mattress,” she said. In this case, the family needed furniture and beds. Broad has the furniture in her warehouse, stocked by Gentled Used furniture “free of charge to anyone referred to us,” she added. “We happy to be part of the solution.
“Our mission is simple and concise. Families are referred to us because the child in the home needs a bed or the adult caregiver doesn’t have a bed. We need the money to continue filling the needs. This is a community event to raise awareness to the need and critical funds,” she said.
