Fixes in the near future got the go-ahead at several Boca parks. But other projects were put on the back burner to come up with the money to make those repairs.
Surface cracks will be addressed at the tennis courts that need them at Patch Reef Park. That playground will be resurfaced. Sugar Sand Park’s playground will get shade canopies, especially over the swings and in the toddler area.
Slippery floor tiles in the new community center at the Swim & Racquet Center will be treated before staff moves in at the end of April.
Facilities manager Melissa Dawson got approval to put out proposals and check out costs for those and other needed projects. Greater Boca Raton Beach & Park District commissioners approved those plans at Tuesday’s regular meeting.
But to do that, these projects will have to wait:
· Restrooms at Mizner Bark dog park
· South restroom renovations at Red Reef Park
· More lighting and the second construction phase at Spanish River Athletic Facilities/deHoernle Park
· Master plan for Gumbo Limbo Nature Center
The nature center’s observation tower was under construction as part of boardwalk improvements already under way. But rebuilding has stopped since the city had questions if the tower would comply with Americans with Disabilities standards, said the district’s interim director Briann Harms.
