Little is known about the political views and vision of City Council Seat D candidate, Dr. Paul G. Preste. We have learned, however, that he is a newcomer to the world of politics looking to bring change to the city, he declared last month to The Sun Sentinel.
Preste is a practicing internal medicine doctor with over 38 years experience. He owns and runs his own private practice, Preste Medical Group, and Prestege Wellness, in the city of Fort Lauderdale. According to his background profile at Prestege Wellness, his practice has been very successful and “incredibly busy from day one,” which led Dr. Preste together with his brother, Jonathan Preste, to expand the business by adding a 28-bed Adult Care Living facility.
A native of South Florida, Preste obtained his medical degree from the University of South Florida School of Medicine. In addition to caring for patients at his practice, he is also affiliated with the Holy Cross Hospital in Fort Lauderdale. “He prides himself on giving the same quality care to all his patients,” says his Prestege biography, “Dr. Preste’s RAISON D’ETRE has been his love of people and being able to give excellent care and help to families and people in times of greatest need.”
On January 11th, Boca Magazine stated that it is “unclear” whether Preste lives in Boca Raton. The previous day, however, The Sun Sentinel had reported him as living in Boca, and findings by VoterRecords.com displays a Boca Raton address alongside his affiliation with the Republican party. When asked about his residence and address Preste stated he was not able to provide this, he only knows how to drive there. Does this seem a little bit suspect and strange to you?
Dr. Preste’s latest known business prospect had been an offer in 2016 to the city of Boca Raton to purchase the western municipal golf course. According to the Minutes of the November 21st, 2016 City Council Workshop, council members deliberated on the proposal by Preste Enterprises as well as others, but later decided to sell the course to GL Homes. Preste had intended to use the land to build a 1,000-unit adult living facility, said The Coastal Star and had made a $78 million offer.
Following his decision to enter the City Council race for seat D, Dr. Preste said to The Sun Sentinel that “sometimes change is better.” We need to ask ourselves honestly and objectively what are the motives of Preste? Why is he seeking a seat on the City Council? Preste stated that he has not voted in the last 12 years. How committed can he be to the greater good of our wonderful city, and what are the true motivations behind his bid for local office?
With March 13th approaching, voters have the opportunity to make a difference and elect an official that has their best needs at heart. We need to ask, is this candidate Dr. Paul Preste?
Dr. Paul Preste declined to comment or be interviewed when The Boca Voice reached out for his response.
