Pirate Invasion 5K/10K registeration now open

Kickoff held at the new Union Twenty-Seven Social Dining Club

A miniature pirate ship greeted guests at the kickoff for the upcoming Pirate Invasion 5K/10K.

The race will be run along a closed A1A from 7:15 to 9 a.m. Feb. 2. The certified Accuchip-timed, the 2.5-mile course is managed by Runners Edge Foundation and Tom Vladimir.

Kids can come along for an 8:15 a.m. race with finisher ribbons. Also planned are pirate-themed takeaways, costume contest, lawn games, a healthy breakfast and Kids Zone.

“I took my children last year,” race co-chair Jennifer Rosemurgy said at the Dec. 3 kickoff at in the new Union Twenty-Seven Social Dining Club.  “We’re getting our kids involved,” co-chair Holly Meehan added.

Race proceeds go to 850 underserved kids on the two Boca campuses of Florence Fuller Child Development Centers. The Rotary Club of Boca Raton and Boca Raton Children’s Museum run by Florence Fuller will also benefit.

Early bird admission is $35 for individuals; $30  for teams of 6 or more; $15 for kids 9 to 16 and free for ages 8 and younger. Prices go up an additional $5 after Jan. 28. Shirts are included for runners who register by Jan. 18. Awards will be presented in male and female age categories.
