You couldn’t see Eric Jaiven’s fuzzy pink slippers behind the bar at Loch Bar’s happy hour Thursday. But like all 24 Real Men Wear Pink, he took the American Cancer Society fundraiser seriously…and wore pink.
Each volunteer did a ½-hour stint as a “bartender,” complete with a tip jar. Both the contents and $30 admission went straight to ACS’ breast cancer programs and research during awareness month. [Their Making Strides walk is Oct. 27 on the FAU campus.]
This event was billed as a Battle of the Bartenders. But each volunteer has until Oct. 31 to raise money. Event chair Pam Weinroth and the ACS’ Lynn Curry will tally up the proceeds and choose the local winners.
Weinroth, who’s making news herself, said she was thrilled with the turnout and community support. So was honorary chair Patti Carpenter, whose son Todd Payne was one of the Real Men. See the whole list at the end.
Weinroth is the new executive director of the Boca West Children’s Foundation. Founded by board chair Arthur Adler, they’re in their 10th year bankrolling projects for 25 children’s charities. They’ve raised $9 million so far.
Pam’s high-profile, not only for her fundraising at events like this. But as the Boca Calendar creator and constant companion with her husband Palm Beach County Commissioner Bob Weinroth. He wore a pink suit, of course.
Auctioneer Neil Saffer did a running commentary and introduced VIPs as they arrived, including Mayor Scott Singer.
Disclosure: Brian Feldman is my husband. He was the one in the pink and orange wig. Thank you Linda Gunn Paton for the $50 tip since your husband Doug Paton was also one of the Real Men. So was our Boca Voice publisher, Pinnacle Advertising CEO Peter Gary. Here’s the video to prove it. https://www.facebook.com/thebocavoice/videos/538532026898460/
