Record crowd holiday shopped at Chamber’s auction

Holiday shoppers used Boca Chamber’s 37th annual auction to buy gifts this year by cell phone.

With 200 donated silent and live items up for bid, they had plenty to choose from. There was everything from jewelry to hotel stays and office parties. Even a private movie screening, floral design, and tooth whitening.

ADT corporate affairs director Bob Tucker had his eye on gift baskets. “We have a holiday party, so I’m supporting the chamber and doing something for our employees as well,” he said.

Technology rules at most silent auctions now. This is at least the second year all their bids were handled via cell phones, said chamber president/CEO Troy McLellan.

“This is a record crowd for us,” he added, surveying the action in the Marriott Boca Raton ballroom Thursday evening, Nov. 29.  The earlier date made the difference before people get too busy in December, he said.

“We had seven restaurants and a deejay to create more of a party atmosphere,” he added.
