It’s amazing how fast rumors get started. Two speakers stepped to the mic at a public meeting to warn against a Ritz-Carlton Hotel planned for Ocean Strand.
The two vacant lots straddle A1A on the Intracoastal and beach front. A park or parking for nearby Gumbo Limbo Nature Center has been suggested.
This is true: A 5-year-old plan for a hotel on the west side with a tunnel to the beach is proposed. Ocean Strand is owned by the Greater Boca Raton Beach & Park District. Commissioners verified they were approached by a local developer.
This is false: But planting what’s known as a “flag” in the hotel business, is really premature. The developer doesn’t even own the property. And commissioners verified at the public meeting Ocean Strand is not for sale.
The Ritz-Carlton Hotel company is a subsidiary of Marriott International. The company said no such project is either planned or underway.
We’re covering Ocean Strand plans and will continue reporting on anything true that’s happening.
