The putting green was full, but golfers stepped back at the count of five. They knew what was coming would help 24 children’s charities.
A cherry picker dropped 700 rubber duckies Monday at Boca West Country Club. The plastic baby birds went for $50 each and the winner won $2,500. That fun ritual signaled the start of the annual Golf Challenge for Boca West Children’s Foundation.
Some 426 golfers teed off on the country club’s four courses. The tournament is part one of the major fundraiser for Boca West Children’s Foundation’s “Battle for the Kids.”
Tickets are still available for Tuesday night’s outdoor “Concert for the Children” at Boca West. This year the show will feature The Fab Four, a Beatles tribute, and Remember When Rock Was Young, an Elton John tribute.
Gates open at 6 p.m. and performances begin at 8 p.m. Tickets are $150 online or call 561-488-6980.
The foundation expects 1,200 in the audience so far, said Arthur Adler, foundation founder and chairman.
