As your luxurious, relaxing vacation comes to an end, a nagging thought creeps into your mind, an old expression drums in your ears – Come Monday, it’s back to the salt mines for me.
If only you were so lucky.
Back in the day, working in the salt mines was considered sheer drudgery — until people started noticing that those miners were healthy as heck.
One Polish health official, Felix Bochkovsky, observed way back in the mid-1800s that salt miners hardly ever had any colds, respiratory ailments or lung diseases. His grand conclusion – it was because of the salt aerosol being inhaled on a daily basis.
Lucky for you, you don’t need to travel to the Khewra Salt Mines in Pakistan to reap the wonderful health benefits.
Welcome to Salt Suite in Boca Raton.
Owner Amanda Bowie had watched as her daughter Alexis, suffered from chronic sinus infections. When Alexis was just 4-years-old she was put on steroids, antibiotics and other over the counter medications for treatment, but Bowie dreaded the thought of the litany of side effects.
Upon the advice of her nurse practitioner, she took her to Salt Suite in Delray Beach – the experience was so life-changing that Bowie decided to open one of her own.
“From the moment we stepped foot in the store, we loved it,” said Bowie. “My daughter loved playing in the salt room and kept wanting to go back. Her sinus infections went away and while going regularly, she no longer got them.”For Bowie, becoming a franchise owner was a no-brainer. There would be no more schlepping her daughter to Delray, they could open one right in their own backyard, in Boca.
A Halogenerator grinds the salt into fine particles which are blown into the air and then breathed into the airways. The salt acts as a scrub brush cleansing and opening airways.Salt Suite works by mimicking the microclimate of a salt cave where the walls and floor are covered in layers of salt. Once in the room, all you need to do is sit down in the comfy recliner and breathe normally.
“As you’re sitting there breathing in the salt air naturally, the salt gets rid of the bad and unwanted bacteria in your airways. As you continue to breathe it in, it reduces any inflammation in your airways and your lungs.”
Salt Suite features separate therapy rooms for children and adults. Each treatment lasts for 45 minutes. The number of treatments needed depends on the individual.
“Sometimes it can take a couple, maybe two or three,” said Bowie. “Some people notice it right away. They walk-in and their nose starts running. They go home and start coughing; the mucus thins up, sometimes it feels like it’s getting worse before it gets better.”
Salt Suite customers notice other benefits as well.
“Not only are customers getting relief from their sinus and respiratory conditions, but they are also able to enjoy the amazing effects of the salt room environment,” said Bowie. “Customers sit back in a reclining chair and are able to listen to spa music or do meditation. Being in this amazing environment not only helps with sinus and respiratory conditions but also assists in boosting our immune system, relieving stress and overall relaxation. We even have a lot of customers who say they sleep better at night.”
The salty environment provides a multitude of benefits for sufferers of sinusitis, bronchitis, allergies, asthma–even COPD and skin ailments like psoriasis, dermatitis and eczema. It also supports the immune system and acts to reduce the risk of colds and flu, and rates of ear infection.
“I am so excited to open the Salt Suite in Boca Raton,” said Bowie. “I love hearing from people how it is helping their families. From whose parents say their child hasn’t had to be on their nebulizers, to the elderly who have said their pulmonologists can’t believe the improvement in their lungs after looking at a CT scan, people are seeing real results.”
