After a rebuff for a Boca park site, tennis great Rafael Nadal is coming to St. Andrew’s private school this summer.
The school verified an official partnership with Rafa Nadal Tennis Academy (RNA) by Movistar near Mallorca, Spain.
Despite his worldwide fame, a rendering for a possible Nadal tennis site went nowhere last spring. Locals were against the Greater Boca Raton Beach & Park District even considering a proposal for Patch Reef Park here.
Nadal won 17 major titles, including 11 French Opens. He’s playing in the French Open now.
The Academy will host four tennis camps on the Saint Andrew’s School campus from Monday, July 1, 2019, to Saturday, July 27, 2019. “This is the first time the Academy will be in the state of Florida, and I believe it will truly be a gratifying and rewarding experience for any child involved,” St. Andrew’s head tennis coach Reid Rafter said in a statement.
The partnership made sense because school is out for the summer and has all the facilities Nadal needs, including dorms, said Dr. Carlos Barroso, St. Andrew’s marketing and communications director.
The Rafa Nadal Tennis Academy will offer its training program to juniors from the ages of 7 to 18. The four separate, one-week camps are $1,000 each. Registration is the St. Andrew’s web site.
