It was St. Andrews School’s time to shine at January’s Boca Chamber breakfast.
Thursday’s program featured a briefing by the recently named head of school. “I decided to apply for the permanent job,” joked Ethan Shapiro, interim head of school since July 2017.
Private schools have to become part of the community, he said. The chamber’s young entrepreneurs program meets on their campus. Their theater is host to the city’s Symphonia.
“We want our students to be healthy, happy successful people the rest of their lives,” Shapiro said about the school’s philosophy.
He introduced student body president Harrison Konsker. He founded Filet for Friends, a nonprofit that grew to 20 members that have given 2,000 pounds of freshly caught fish to 4,500 families.
Clara Bennett, who emceed, said planes created by St. Andrews’ art students will soon decorate the new U.S. Customs facility. Bennett is Boca Raton Airport’s executive director.
The lower school choir capped the morning with a mini concert of songs.
