Theismann to speak at YMCA breakfast

South county’s YMCA just announced Joe Theismann will be keynote speaker at the 18th annual YMCA of South Palm Beach County Inspiration Breakfast on March 4.
A championship quarterback, broadcaster, actor and entrepreneur, the former Washington Redskin was a sportscaster and analyst for ESPN and the NFL Network for 20 years. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2013.
“His story of perseverance will inspire our YMCA audience to commit to a positive attitude, no matter what life throws at you,” said Jason Hagensick, Y president and CEO.
After helping his team win Super Bowl XVII in 1983, Theismann had a career-ending leg injury in 1985 that has become part of pro football history.
“I didn’t want to be the guy who was all consumed with himself. I wanted to be somebody who could affect other people. I want to be able to affect people in a positive way,” he told Community Magazine in an interview for a 2019 TV movie role.
Tables at the breakfast are $2,500. Some include VIP sponsor tickets for a preview reception March 3 at the Boca Raton Resort & Club. Tickets and some sponsorships at www.ymcaspbc.org/inspirationbreakfast or contact Kimberley Trombly-Burmeister at 561-300-3238.
Breakfast proceeds go to financial assistance for youth development in community outreach programs at schools and pools, and the Peter Blum Family YMCA of Boca Raton and DeVos-Blum Family YMCA of Boynton Beach.
The YMCA breakfast has a track record of famous athletes speaking, including Jason Taylor, Alonzo Mourning, Jim Kelly and Olympic swimmer Dara Torres.
Office Depot Global headquarters in Boca Raton will be the host sponsor for the fifth year. Alex Price, national director of community investment is breakfast chair.
