Town Center at Boca Raton is debuting the new kids’ PLAY area noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21.
PLAY is a 1,600-square-foot recreational space with seating just inside the Crate & Barrel entrance in the back of the mall.
The free grand opening will include a balloon drop, Octonauts characters, face painters, stilt walkers, crafts and sweet treats.
Activities provided by Boca Raton Children’s Museum, Gumbo Limbo Nature Center and the Children’s Science Explorium at Sugar Sand Park.
The designers were delighted to see little kids’ reactions at a preview earlier this week. Children as young as 2 ½ climbed the nets, jumped the permanent pogo sticks and watched a video.
“It’s amazing how this comes to life,” said James Best, president and CEO of Blanc Space.
PLAY is designed for children under 42 inches. The area was meant to encourage social and interactive play, said design director Polin Sok. It has a waterfront theme, and children ran their hands over the blue tileworks.
Moms stood back and watched their kids scamper around the indoor play area. They found touch screens for two interactive games and watched an aquatic themed video.
There’s a kids’ size telescope. Anchored pogo sticks attach to huge trees with movable petals overhead. Upholstered seating has permanent banquettes and rolling ottomans kids can move.
“We’re excited about the debut and ribbon cutting,” said Jeannie Roberts, director of marketing. “We’ll have a deejay and Hula Hoop performers.”
