Traffic alert for I-95 Thursday and Spanish River bridge Monday

All southbound lanes on I-95 at Palmetto Park Road will close to traffic overnight Thursday Aug. 22.

And traffic impacts start Monday Aug. 26 on the Spanish River Boulevard bridge over the Intracoastal Waterway. The bridge remains open with one-lane closures planned in each direction through September.

Southbound I-95 lanes will close completely from 11:30 p.m. Thursday to 5:30 a.m. Friday. The closure is scheduled for overhead road work north of the Southwest 18th Street overpass.

Traffic will be detoured via Palmetto Park Road’s I-95 southbound exit ramp west to Military Trail, the first traffic light. Then south on Military to the southbound ramp to I-95 on Hillsboro Boulevard.

Spanish River Boulevard’s bridge between Federal Highway and A1A remains open to traffic. But one westbound lane may close 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; one eastbound lane may close 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Both closures are Mondays through Sundays.

Both projects are under way by the Florida Department of Transportation [FDOT].

The bridge work is part of a $2.4 million project that began Monday, Aug. 12. Work includes sandblasting existing paint and repainting the steel structure. Bridge span locks will be repaired and piling jackets replaced. Completion is expected in early 2020.

The work on I-95 is part of a 4.8-mile, $102 million project to widen and convert existing HOV lanes to two, tolled express lanes in each direction. That work is expected to be finished in spring 2022.
