Can you still wear white after Labor Day and not look like a tourist?
Stylish Boca Raton women who are used to stashing their whites away for next summer may be surprised.
Boca Voice asked two retail fashion executives and two women known for their panache for their take on the subject.
Heather Shaw, vice president/general manager, Saks Fifth Avenue Boca Raton
“White is certainly acceptable after Labor Day, from cowboy boots and chunky sneakers to the power bag and lightweight winter-white knits.
“But now is the perfect time to transition into fall and shine brightly with silver, this season’s new neutral. Don’t be afraid to wear it day or night.”
Emily Gentile, president, The Beach Condo Association of Boca Raton and Highland Beach
“I’m not putting away my white pleated pants or my white jumpsuit I can wear to a function. We’re in the tropics, so we do things differently. But I don’t want to look like the ice cream man.”
Lauren Johnson, regional public relations director, Neiman Marcus Boca Raton, Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale
“You can wear white all year long. It has nothing to do with Memorial Day to Labor Day. White denim, white booties. The trends for fall are peacock blues, animal prints and sequins for day. You can wear one of the new hues in blue or a teal top or colored earrings.”
Peg Anderson, member, Art in Public Places Advisory Board
“I feel freer to do that now. It’s becoming more socially acceptable. Especially if you have a great pair of white jeans, a cashmere sweater and designer sneakers of course.
